Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if therapy is right for me?

A: Deciding to start therapy is a personal choice, and it’s essential to consider your own needs, goals, and readiness for the therapeutic process. Therapy can benefit individuals who are seeking support, guidance, and a safe space to explore their emotions, thoughts, and challenges.

It can be helpful for various concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and personal growth. If you’re unsure, we recommend scheduling a free consultation with one of our therapists to discuss your specific situation and determine if therapy is a good fit for you.

Q: What can I expect in my first therapy session?

A: Your first therapy session is an opportunity for you to get to know your therapist and for them to learn about you and your concerns. The therapist will create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely express yourself.

They may ask questions about your background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. It’s common to feel nervous or unsure in the beginning, but your therapist will guide you through the process and ensure your comfort. The first session is also an excellent opportunity to ask any questions you may have about therapy.

Q: What is an LPC Associate, and how are they qualified to help me?

A: An LPC Associate, or Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, is a therapist who has completed their graduate education in counseling and is working towards obtaining full licensure under the supervision of a licensed therapist. Although they are still in the process of obtaining their license, LPC Associates have received extensive education and training in counseling.

They work closely with their supervisor, receiving ongoing guidance and support to ensure they provide high-quality care to their clients. LPC Associates bring their unique perspectives, experiences, and therapeutic approaches to help clients navigate their challenges and work towards positive change.

Q: Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

A: Yes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy for many individuals. Research has demonstrated that online therapy can be just as beneficial in addressing a wide range of concerns. It provides convenience, accessibility, and flexibility, allowing you to engage in therapy from the comfort of your own space.

Our online therapy sessions are conducted through a secure and confidential platform, ensuring your privacy and maintaining the same level of professionalism as in-person sessions. Our therapists are experienced in providing effective online therapy, and we strive to create a supportive and therapeutic environment regardless of the mode of delivery.

Q: How long does therapy typically last?

A: The duration of therapy varies depending on individual circumstances, goals, and the complexity of the challenges being addressed. Some individuals may find benefit from short-term therapy, which could range from a few sessions to several months. Others may engage in longer-term therapy, especially when addressing deep-rooted issues or working towards significant personal growth.

Ultimately, the length of therapy is a collaborative decision between you and your therapist, and it can be periodically reassessed to ensure you are getting the support you need.

Q: How much does therapy cost?

A: The cost of therapy can vary depending on several factors, such as the therapist’s experience, location, and session duration. At our practice, our rates are competitive, and we offer 50-minute sessions for $150 and 90-minute sessions for $225. Adventure therapy session may be priced higher depending on the location and activity. Hunter, our Adventure Therapist in San Antonio, will discuss fees prior to booking an appointment/activity.

We understand that therapy is an investment, and we strive to provide value and high-quality care to our clients. Our therapists also provide limited spots for reduced rate services. Contact us to learn more.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: As LPC Associates, we are currently unable to be in-network with insurance providers. However, we can provide you with the necessary documentation to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits, and we encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage and reimbursement options.

That being said, not utilizing insurance does have benefits that include you and your therapist having more control over the treatment you receive as well as increased privacy as information is not shared with your insurer about your care.

Q: Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for therapy?

A: Yes, therapy services are often eligible for reimbursement through FSAs and HSAs. You can use these accounts to cover the cost of therapy sessions. We recommend consulting with your account provider or benefits administrator to confirm the specific guidelines and requirements for reimbursement.

Q: Is the cost of therapy worth it?

A: The value of therapy extends far beyond monetary cost. Investing in your mental and emotional well-being can have long-lasting benefits for your overall quality of life. Therapy can help you gain insights, develop coping strategies, and improve your relationships.

It’s an opportunity for personal growth, self-discovery, and healing. We believe that the positive impact therapy can have on your life is invaluable, and we are committed to supporting you on your journey towards well-being.

Q: What if I can't afford therapy?

A: We understand that financial considerations can be a barrier for some individuals. Our practice offers a limited number of reduced fee slots for clients who may need financial assistance. Please reach out to us to discuss your situation, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Additionally, there may be community mental health centers or organizations in your area that provide low-cost or free therapy services. We can provide you with referrals and resources to explore these options.
