Finding the right therapist can often feel like a daunting task. You might be struggling with anxiety or depression. Perhaps you’re seeking assistance for a gifted child who is struggling to navigate through their unique challenges or is being bullied.

Maybe you’re an adult looking for a more creative and expressive form of therapy, or you’ve tried therapy before and traditional talk therapy didn’t quite hit the mark. Whatever your needs may be, you’ve taken a courageous step by starting your search, and for that, I applaud you.

I’ve created this page to help you get a sense of what it might be like to work with me. When you’re ready, I invite you to schedule a free 30-minute consultation.

My Approach

The Power of Expressive Arts and Play

As an artist myself, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of creative expression in clarifying emotions and unveiling new perspectives. I brought this unique approach into my therapy practice, providing an alternative to traditional talk therapy.

I believe that every individual has an artist inside them, waiting to express their innermost thoughts, fears, joys, and anxieties. This belief has propelled my work with expressive arts therapy, where we might create, draw, or paint our way to understanding and healing.

Harnessing the Language of Play

For children, particularly those who are three and above, I’ve found play therapy to be an effective method of communication. The joy and honesty of a child at play can illuminate their thoughts and feelings in a way words often cannot. Through the language of play, we can work together to build resilience, foster understanding, and encourage growth.

Play Therapy – It’s Not Just for Kids

When we think of play, we often associate it with children. But why should they have all the fun? Play isn’t just child’s play; it’s a powerful, universal language and a fundamental part of human nature, regardless of our age.

Play therapy isn’t just for children. The essence of play taps into our intrinsic creativity, openness, and exploration. As adults, we may have simply forgotten how to engage this playful side, but it remains within us, ready to be reignited.

In my practice, I extend the benefits of play therapy to adults as well. Play can offer us a different lens to view our problems and can often be a source of relief from the weight of anxiety and depression. It allows us to explore feelings and experiences that might otherwise be too difficult or painful to approach in a straightforward manner.

Exploring Diverse Therapeutic Approaches

Imagine using art, poetry, or even the simple act of walking and talking in a playful context to face our fears, anxieties, and challenges. By integrating these elements into therapy, we can create a safe, non-judgmental space where healing can occur.

I also understand that sometimes, we need other tools to help navigate our inner world. Therefore, I incorporate cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), activity therapy, poetry therapy, and walk-and-talk therapy into my practice. These different approaches allow us to find the best fit for you or your child’s therapeutic journey.

Elaine’s Ideal Clients: A Symphony of Differences

While I am equipped and experienced to help a wide range of clients, I have found my therapeutic style to be particularly effective with certain groups. In my practice, I strive to create an environment that fosters growth, self-discovery, and healing for all my clients. However, there are a few characteristics that define those who tend to benefit most from my approach.

1. Gifted Children:

If you are the parent of a gifted child who is struggling with anxiety, depression, or the effects of bullying, you may find my specialized expertise in this area to be the support you need. I understand the unique challenges that gifted children face and utilize a range of techniques, including play therapy and expressive arts therapy, to help them navigate their world more confidently.

2. Creative Adults:

Adults who are drawn to creativity, or who wish to explore a different therapeutic avenue, often find my expressive arts therapy approach quite beneficial. Utilizing creativity as a form of expression can unlock new perspectives and provide a unique path toward healing and self-understanding.

3. Individuals Seeking an Alternative Approach:

Whether you’ve tried therapy before and didn’t find traditional talk therapy effective, or you’re simply intrigued by a different therapeutic approach, you could be an excellent match for my style. My arsenal of therapeutic methods, including CBT, activity therapy, poetry therapy, and walk-and-talk therapy, allow us to find the method that resonates most with you.

4. Those Embracing Cultural Diversity:

My practice thrives on cultural diversity. If you hail from diverse cultural backgrounds or are seeking a culturally sensitive therapeutic approach, you’ll find a welcoming, understanding environment here.

5. Playful Spirits:

It doesn’t matter if you’re an adult or a child – if you’re open to tapping into your playful side, you might find my blend of therapy incredibly rewarding. By integrating play therapy, we can explore feelings and experiences in a way that promotes healing and growth.

Remember, this is not an exclusive list. The power of therapy lies in its ability to adapt and cater to the unique needs of each individual. If you’re seeking a therapist who is willing to listen, to understand, and to walk this path with you, I’m here. Together, we can explore your story, navigate through the challenges, and find the healing and growth you’re looking for.

Why Choose An LPC Associate

Choosing the right therapist for you can be a challenging process, and it's important to find someone who is the right fit for both of you.

A Fresh Perspective

As LPC Associates, we may be newer to the field, but we bring a fresh perspective to counseling. We are more familiar with the latest research and techniques, and may have a different approach to therapy than more experienced counselors.

Experience Doesn't Equal Better

While experience is certainly important in any field, when it comes to therapy, it's not always the determining factor for successful outcomes. What matters most is the therapist's approach, their ability to connect with clients, and their dedication to their clients' progress and growth.

Ongoing Supervision

We want you to know that our regular supervision with a more experienced clinician is an important part of the care we provide to our clients. This added layer of support ensures that we are always providing the highest level of care possible and allows us to continually improve and refine our skills as a therapist.
