My Approach

Helping You Feel Good About Your Body

My passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges, especially their relationship with themselves and their bodies, comes from my own personal experiences. Although I have never been diagnosed with an eating disorder, I have struggled with body image issues and noticed the impact they had on my eating habits and mental well-being. Through my journey, I realized that understanding and addressing the underlying issues is crucial to preventing the development of disordered eating.

In my practice, I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for my clients as they explore these important topics and work to develop a healthier perspective on their bodies and their lives. My goal is for each of my clients to reach a point where they can engage in life’s pleasures without guilt or shame, whether that means enjoying a meal with loved ones or simply feeling comfortable in their own skin.

My approach to therapy is centered around you and your unique needs. I draw from a range of effective techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and acceptance. Additionally, I completed a course in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which has provided me with valuable insights and tools.

What sets my approach apart is my ability to tailor the treatment to your preferences and comfort level. I understand that not everyone enjoys homework or feels motivated by it, so I make sure to have multiple strategies available. I want therapy to feel personalized and relevant to you, so we can find an approach that resonates with your needs and preferences.

My clients often seek assistance with a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, perfectionism, disordered eating, body image issues, and low self-esteem. My commitment to each client is to walk with them on their journey as a compassionate and caring partner, providing the necessary tools and techniques to help them overcome these obstacles and truly embrace their worth.

Together, we can work to not only prevent eating disorders and other mental health challenges but also foster a sense of self-love and acceptance that can profoundly improve overall well-being.

Who I Work Best With

My clients come to me with a sincere desire to feel good about their bodies and maintain a healthy relationship with food. They want to enjoy life’s simple pleasures without guilt or shame, knowing that they are worthy and deserving of happiness and self-love. Whether their goals consist of eating a meal free of guilt, attending social gatherings with confidence, or simply learning to appreciate their bodies, my aim is to support them in achieving these objectives and experiencing life to the fullest.

I often work with clients who have been struggling with body image issues for years, or even decades. They may have a history of dieting and restrictive eating that has ultimately led to an unhealthy relationship with food. In addition to having difficulty trusting their own judgment, they may have difficulty connecting to their feelings and emotions, or have difficulty setting healthy boundaries.

I also work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety and depression which may or may not be a result of their experiences with body image. For these clients, I work to uncover the underlying causes of their struggles and help them develop healthier coping mechanisms.

If you are ready to take the first step on this journey of healing and transformation, please contact our group practice to schedule an appointment. Christina Maxwell and our team of caring professionals are here to walk by your side during this incredible journey toward self-discovery and growth.

Why Choose An LPC Associate

Choosing the right therapist for you can be a challenging process, and it's important to find someone who is the right fit for both of you.

A Fresh Perspective

As LPC Associates, we may be newer to the field, but we bring a fresh perspective to counseling. We are more familiar with the latest research and techniques, and may have a different approach to therapy than more experienced counselors.

Experience Doesn't Equal Better

While experience is certainly important in any field, when it comes to therapy, it's not always the determining factor for successful outcomes. What matters most is the therapist's approach, their ability to connect with clients, and their dedication to their clients' progress and growth.

Ongoing Supervision

We want you to know that our regular supervision with a more experienced clinician is an important part of the care we provide to our clients. This added layer of support ensures that we are always providing the highest level of care possible and allows us to continually improve and refine our skills as a therapist.
